On 17 June, after Covid-19 emergency period, we were happy to finally hold the planned seminar on Accessibility of nature trails. Together with the NGO Apeirons we compiled an exciting programme and invited speakers from NGOs representing people with visual and hearing impairment, who shared their experience and best practice examples on how to better adapt the nature trails and information centres to people with disabilities, as well as discussed the practical examples from our inspection visits. We also asked the Nature Conservation Agency and Municipality representatives to share their experience in adapting the natures trails to disabled, as well as talk of the existing challenges in this area. The Project Leader A. Lūse presented the Accessibility Check-list for Nature Trails that has been developed within the framework of the project together with partners prom Estonia and Finland, listing the key criteria to determine the compliance of the trail with accessibility requirements. In the end of the seminar, the lecturers together with seminar participants jointly inspected the nearby trail in Black-alder swamp to show in practice how to determine if and to what extent the trail is accessible to all.
