EE-LV00143 “Facilitating access to watertourism activities” (Riverways II)

From May 1 to August 31, several lakes in Kurzeme were surveyed to assess their accessibility for people with mobility impairments. During the survey, both fully and partially accessible recreation areas were identified, offering various facilities – from adapted boardwalks and swimming areas to changing cabins, parking lots, and nature trails.

Lakes in Kurzeme

  • Lake Liepāja – accessible boardwalk, Nature House (nature education center), WC
  • Kazdanga Millpond – accessible nature trail, boardwalk, WC
  • Lake Durbe – partially accessible (parking, WC near the viewing tower)
  • Lake Alsunga – partially accessible (first floor of Alsunga Crafts House accessible; lakeshore reachable by car, no additional facilities)
  • Lake Būšnieki – wide range of facilities: beach wheelchair at Deer Garden, parking, nature trail, changing cabin, tactile stand (slightly damaged), tactile birds and fish, new parking spaces for people with disabilities near the viewing tower
  • Lake Usma – Elkrags nature trail with tactile fish and map; accessible room at Usma SPA for people with mobility impairments
  • Lake Laidze – accessible parking, WC, and recreation area (from Laidze Bathhouse side)
  • Lake Vilkmuiža – accessible WC and parking (currently under improvement works)
  • Lake Sasmakas – partially accessible (parking, WC, accessible path along the swimming area)
  • Lake Talsi – partially accessible (parking near the cultural center, boardwalk; swimming not allowed)
  • Lake Valgums – partially accessible (no swimming area, but accessible walking route – Art Trail)
  • Lake Ciecere – partially accessible (boardwalk and trail in Brocēni along one lakeshore, WC; changing cabin at Ciecere Port with boat trips on Zezer)
  • Lake Saldus – accessible swimming area, changing cabin, WC, parking (improvement works ongoing, new facilities expected)
