The World Summit on Accessible Tourism took place on 6 – 7 October 2025 in Torino (Italy) – presentations, sessions, meetings, discussions – everything about and around accessible destinations and the importance and future of accessibility in the development of the tourism business.
On the first Summit day, 6 October, the opening ceremony started with a number of speaches by several prominent representatives from the government of Italy and Turin municipality, following with a plenary session by ENAT, ENIT, EC and Turin Tourism Centre representatives. The second half of the day has been dedicated to a number of parallel sessions, each with a group of speakers and a moderator, under the key topics: the future of accessible travel, destinatons and business development, European capitals of smart tourism, good practices of DMOs, accessible tourism business, education and training, IT and technologies, mobility and transport, good practices in projects. Key findings – access to realiable and correct information on the accessibility of the site is very important, accessibility of the sites should be marketed on a much larger scale, even if accessibility is lacking, the hosting attitude is the key to success.
On the second Summit day, 7 October, the plenary session has been devoted to AI and new technologies for accessible tourism (creating travel itineraries using AI, offering virtual reality and 3D solutions for visitors etc.). The main sessions were followed by several sets of parallel sessions, with the last one under the key topic of good practices of DMOs, where the Project Leader A.Lūse presented the Access Routes project, Estonia – Latvia cross-border cooperation and the Interreg programmes’ support to facilitate accessible tourism.
