Saldus Municipality on 3 June 2026, within the the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021 – 2027 project project LL-00011 Development of the water routes network in Latvia and Lithuania by further expanding the cross-border tourism product www.riverways.eu/WaterWays, implemented by the Kurzeme Planning Region, welcomed representatives of Latvian media to present the diverse water tourism and active leisure opportunities that are being purposefully developed in the Saldus area. Throughout the day, guests visited several locations in and around Saldus and Brocēni, exploring local infrastructure, services offered by entrepreneurs, and the region’s unique natural resources.
Morning Coffee by Lake Saldus
The visit began at Lake Saldus, where media representatives were introduced to the newly created walking trail, the improved beach area, and various active leisure opportunities. The importance of the lake for city recreation, public events, and tourism development was highlighted.
Wakepark Saldus at the Sātiņi Reservoir
Mārtiņš Zabarovskis presented the infrastructure and water sports opportunities offered by Wakepark Saldus. Guests could watch wakeboarding demonstrations and try wakeboarding or SUP boarding themselves. Discussions emphasized the region’s potential for youth and sports tourism.
Water Attraction Park at Lake Ciecere – “Sportive”
In Brocēni, Ieva and Arnis Alferovi welcomed the media and introduced the activities of their company Sportive, including the inflatable water attraction park Sportive Aqua. Guests enjoyed lunch with a view of the lake and learned about the company’s services—summer camps, events, and various active leisure options.
SUP Activity on Lake Ciecere
Kalvis Kampenuss from SIA Krasta Puse led a SUP session, during which guests received safety instructions and took a short paddle from Ciecere Beach to Ciecere Port. Those who preferred to stay on land were offered a walk along the nature trail and through the Brocēni Forest Park, where blooming rhododendrons could be seen.
Boat Trip on “Zezer”
Vilnis Vecmanis introduced the Ciecere Port area and shared insights into water tourism development plans. Guests enjoyed a scenic boat trip on Zezer, taking in the beautiful lake views and listening to stories about the history of Brocēni.
Visit to the “Garden Pavilion” by Lake Ciecere
The day concluded with a visit to Solveiga Dzene’s ornamental garden and Garden Pavilion. Media representatives learned about the services offered by Cieceres Ūdensrozes, and—thanks to a presentation prepared by Saldus TIC —gained insights into paddling opportunities on the Venta and Ciecere rivers, popular routes, and boat rental options in the Saldus area. The visit ended with informal conversations and interviews.
Saldus Municipality – Where Water Adventures Meet Natural Beauty
The media visit confirmed that Saldus and Brocēni offer extensive opportunities for both active leisure enthusiasts and those seeking peaceful nature experiences. Well-developed infrastructure, entrepreneurial initiatives, and rich natural resources form a strong foundation for further water tourism development in the region.
