Project No. C034
From 21 to 23 September, 2026, the final partner meeting of the “Light in the Dark” project took place at Arholma Nord in Sweden, bringing together project partners to reflect on three years of joint work, review the main results achieved, and discuss how the project outcomes can continue to be used after the project ends.
During the meeting, partners presented the main results from all project work packages, including visitor and tourism SME research, tourism product development and piloting experiences, the off-season tourism concept, marketing materials, the product development handbook, and the digital inspirational tool developed for tourism businesses.
Kurzeme Planning Region presented the experience and main conclusions from tourism product piloting carried out within the project, as well as the work completed under WP3 on interregional communication and transfer of project results to tourism sector stakeholders.
An important part of the programme was also a discussion with tourism SMEs involved in the project. The discussion focused on the value created by the project, the solutions and activities that had worked particularly well, possible areas for improvement, and how the experience gained through the project could be used in future business development.
During the “Future 2.0” workshop, partners reviewed the remaining tasks for the final stage of the project, shared key lessons learned, and discussed opportunities for future cooperation. The final day also focused on how the materials, tools and cooperation network developed during the project could continue to be used and further developed after the end of the project period.
During the visit, the project partners also had the opportunity to experience the tourism offer of Arholma Island and the Stockholm Archipelago, including local nature-based and active tourism experiences and the Arholma section of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail.

Project “Light in the Dark”
Light in the Dark is an Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021–2027 project aimed at developing innovative tourism experiences to extend the tourism season beyond the traditional summer period and create new opportunities for off-season tourism.
The Challenge Inventory survey was conducted in all five participating countries: Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. It targeted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the northern Baltic Sea region and explored their interest in expanding their operations beyond the traditional summer season, as well as the challenges they face due to seasonal variations in tourist flows.
