On 11-12 April at Žemaitija National Park the Kurzeme Planning Region together with its 10 UniGreen project partners (Aukštaitijos nacionalinis parkas, Biržų Regioninis Parkas, DURBE un Durbes novads, Kretingos rajono savivaldybė, Kuldīgas Novada Dome, Rojas novada pašvaldība, Saldus novada pašvaldība, Skrundas novada pašvaldība, Ventspils novada pašvaldība, Žemaitijos nacionalinis parkas) organised the project management meeting to discuss the progress made in the fourth period and to agree on the tasks for the next – the final project period.
Over the fourth period (November 2018 – April 2019) the work continued on project management, communication, infrastructure development activities and competence raising and marketing workpackages.
Under the infrastructure development activities in Kurzeme, the project has successfully finished the construction of the watching tower and the resting area at Lake Durbe, the construction of the wooden boardwalk along the coast of Lake Usma and the trail along the River Venta in Kuldīga, at Pārventa Park. With this, the partners in Kurzeme have finished all their activities initially foreseen in the project.
Under the infrastructure development activities in Lithuania, the project has successfully finished the construction wooden boardwalks and pontoon bridges at Kirkilai karstic lakes in Biržai Regional Park. The work on the improvement of Jaurykla park in Kretinga and construction of pontoon piers at Aukštaitija National Park has continued. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, works at Jaurykla park and on the construction of pontoon piers have been delayed. Due to this the project implementation period has been prolonged 31 October this year in order to successfully carry out and accomplish the building and installation works during the summer – autumn period.
Under the competence raising and marketing measures, the comprehensive on-year long training course of the nature guides of Kurzeme Region has finished and 26 guides received the certificates.
Over this period, the project has also created audio records with QR codes in Latvian and English on 20 nature trails in Kurzeme, as well as a Guidebook in Latvian, Lithuanian and English on nature trails in Kurzeme and North Lithuania that comprises comprehensive information on more than 80 nature trails. The Guidebook will be available at all tourism information centres in Kurzeme, tourism information centres in Lithuania and visitor centres at project partner institutions in Lithuania towards the end of May.
At the end of the meeting the partners participated at the initiative “Darom” organised by the Directorate of Žemaitija National Park to inspect and clean from trash the park resting areas.
Project activities are being implemented with the support of the Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2014-2020.
