On July 2–3, 2025, representatives of the Kurzeme Planning Region (KPR) participated in the kick-off meeting of the Just Femme project, taking place in the city of Kozani, Greece. This international project brings together partners from Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria, Latvia, North Macedonia and Lithuania, with a shared goal: to ensure a just, inclusive, and gender-responsive transition to a green and digital economy, particularly in former carbon-intensive regions.
During the two-day meeting, participants presented project objectives and planned activities, introduced regional contexts, and collaborate on designing mechanisms for interregional cooperation over the coming years.
Kurzeme Planning Region will play a key role in leading an interregional policy learning event focused on aligning labor market policies with just transition and gender equality strategies. This activity will include a dedicated workshop hosted in Kurzeme in 2026, gathering experts, policymakers, and partner regions to share good practices and innovative solutions.
The “Just Femme” project aims to promote women’s employment, entrepreneurship, and education in Just Transition regions. It emphasizes gender analysis of labor markets, policy evaluation, gender budgeting, improvements in education and care systems, and the development of social innovations.
Through active participation in Just Femme, KPR will not only gain valuable experience and insights but also contribute to transferring these practices into the regional development strategies of Latvia – fostering socially responsible and inclusive growth.
