On August 30th 2017 project “I See” LLI-212 Opening event took place in Klaipeda. Event was organised by project lead partner Kurzeme planning region in close cooperation with project partner Klaipeda city social support centre.
Forty-eight persons attended the event, including project partners from four involved project municipalities as well as different NGOs that are related to persons with disabilities.
The participants were presented with more detailed information about the project and its’ planned results. Each project partner presented their project activities that are to implemented in their organisation or their municipalities city environment.
Deep insight on the addressed issues was presented by Liepaja society for blind. Its’ leader Māris Ceirulis and his assistant presented two presentations on Liepaja best practises on environment adaptation for visually impaired persons. Participants were so interested that many questions were asked that Maris answered by very carefully by explaining how little and simple adaptations in the city environment can improve the quality of life not only for visually impaired persons but for society in general. Liepaja is a city in Kurzeme region and in Latvia in general that is best adapted for visually impaired persons.
Project aim is to promote equal attitudes towards persons with disabilities and to improve social inclusion of persons with visual impairments. It will be reached by strengthening cooperation, raising society awareness and improving competencies of specialists, improving social infrastructure and accessibility, efficiency and diversification of social services.
Project implementation if funded by European Regional Development fund, total project budget 493 044,31 EUR (incl. ERDF 419 087,65 EUR).
Project duration May 1ST 2017 – April 30th 2019.
