In October of this year, several important amendments were made to the implementation of the Interreg Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project No. LL-00011 “Development of a Water Route Network in Latvia and Lithuania, Expanding the Cross-border Tourism Product www.riverways.eu” (acronym – WaterWays). The changes are related to partnership adjustments and the extension of the project duration.
Withdrawal of Talsi Municipality from the Project
After several unsuccessful procurement procedures, Talsi Municipality has decided to withdraw from the project.
Additional Infrastructure Improvements at Lake Ciecere
In addition to previously planned works, Saldus Municipality intends to install an accessible terrace at Lake Ciecere. The originally planned improvements – a gravel path, accessibility solutions for the walkway, and landscaping elements – have been completed with cost savings, allowing the area to be supplemented with new accessibility infrastructure.
New Investment to Improve Accessibility at Snēpele Pond
In addition to the already completed improvement of the Vilgāle Lake shoreline, Kuldīga Municipality will invest in enhancing accessibility at Snēpele Pond. The planned works include:
- construction of an access path to the pond,
- installation of a new pontoon walkway with railings, benches, and steps.
These improvements will ensure more convenient and safer access for various groups of residents – seniors, families with children, and people with mobility impairments.
Extension of the Project Deadline
Due to partnership changes, the need to implement the new investments, and the seasonality of construction works, the project implementation period has been extended by one additional period. The new project end date is 31 August 2026. This will ensure the possibility to complete investments in favorable weather conditions and to carry out the project’s communication activities during the optimal spring and summer seasons.
The project promotes the improvement of water tourism infrastructure and the strengthening of international cooperation.
