On September 5th and 6th, 2024, in Rapina, Estonia, a partner meeting for the “Garden Pearls II” project took place. During the event, participants had the opportunity to visit two of the project partner’s gardens – Palusalu Garden and Mikko Farm – where they could see the implemented accessibility solutions and the goals set for improving garden accessibility.

Palusalu Garden is an impressive, approximately two-hectare English-style ornamental garden, which began its creation in 2004 and continues to expand. The owners not only maintain the garden as an ornamental space and open it for visits on special dates but have also turned it into a business. They share their experiences through lectures attended by over 15,000 enthusiasts, and they offer services such as garden design and maintenance, as well as the sale of garden tools. More about this garden can be read here: https://www.gardenpearls.eu/gardens/palusalu-garden/.

In contrast, Mikko Farm’s garden was created for personal enjoyment, inspired by the lectures of the owner of Palusalu Garden. This garden also covers approximately 2 hectares and is open for visits by appointment. The owners invite guests not only during the blooming season but also to celebrate significant events, offering facilities for events, accommodation, and catering services. During the official part of the partners’ meeting, Tõiv Jõul from the University of Tartu provided updates on the development progress of the self-assessment questionnaires. The Garden Pearls Association presented plans for improving the accessibility of their website gardenpearls.eu, while the Vidzeme Tourism Association discussed the schedule for planned exhibitions. Additionally, Sille Talvet-Unt, along with pilot investment partners, provided an overview of the sites, reviewed project timelines, and engaged in discussions, addressing partners’ suggestions and various administrative issues.

The partners’ meeting was held as part of the INTERREG Estonia-Latvia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2021-2027, Project No. EE-LV00038, “Garden Pearls II”.
