EE-LV00143 “Facilitating access to watertourism activities” (Riverways II)
More than 70 participants – project partners, tourism entrepreneurs, students and representatives of tourist information centres in Latvia and Estonia – gathered on 27 – 28 February 2025 at the Vidzeme University to spend two exciting, creative and intensive days together to jointly create innovations for more accessible water tourism.
Participants worked in 8 teams. The grand prize went to the Lavender colour team, which idea of inventing a waterproof, comfy, soft and adapted for everyone – canoe/kayak seat appealed to the jury the most.
The audience award went to the Yellow colour team for their idea of a practical safe boating training course with the intriguing title – “How not to drown your grandmother!”.
The team winning the grand prize received a very special present – a unique opportunity to go on a 5 days’ study tour to Finland in November this year, where together with project partners they will also visit the largest annual exhibition of assistive technologies “Apuväline” in Tampere.
In parallel to the hackathon, project partners also met for the project management meeting, to discuss several important upcoming project activities:
- Status with 1st partner reports and project modifications;
- Investments – pier sketches made so far, best practices and tips from NGO Apeirons;
- Accessibility inspections at water tourism sites and desk-search to be carried out for rivers and lakes in all partner territories;
- Riverways.eu/upesoga.lv website and Facebook profiles, as well as work on website modernisations and Safe&Green concept;
- Planned training of water tourism operators.
Hackathon was organised by the Vidzeme Planning Region in cooperation with the Tartu University and Kurzeme Planning Region. We continue to work on raising awareness about the accessibility in water tourism!
