On November 27, 2024, Kurzeme Planning Region organized a meeting on social innovation and social entrepreneurship ecosystems within the framework of the project “Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystems” (RESIST). The event brought together industry experts and cooperation partners to enhance understanding of the significance of social innovation and to identify opportunities and challenges for business development in the context of a sustainable economy.
The meeting was attended by representatives from:
- The Latvian Social Entrepreneurship Association (LSUA)
- The Ministry of Welfare
- The Society Integration Foundation
- The Social Innovation Competence Centre (SIKC)
Participants discussed the importance and potential of social innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Anete Urka (LSUA) explained the terminology of social economy, emphasizing concepts such as “social innovation” and “social entrepreneurship” and their role in the ecosystem.
- Juris Cebulis (Ministry of Welfare) introduced the Social Economy Action Plan 2025–2029, highlighting its legal aspects, monitoring systems, and division of responsibilities.
- Andris Izinkēvičs (SIKC) shared practical examples of social innovation and presented plans for the next four years.
- Evija Kleina (Society Integration Foundation) provided information on available financial support for social innovation creators.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the lack of a unified understanding of the importance of social innovation in society and municipalities hinders the development of this sector. Participants identified key challenges and proposed solutions to foster a shared vision and promote collaboration across sectors.

The project “Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem” (RESIST) is funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Program 2021–2027. Its goal is to develop social innovation and social entrepreneurship ecosystems in the Baltic Sea region and promote cross-sectoral collaboration.
