The video offers a glimpse into the underwater world of the Baltic Sea, around 36 kilometres from the coast opposite Pāvilosta, where the water depth reaches 20–40 metres. It explains how the Baltic Sea seabed was formed, the ecological role of reefs, and why these habitats are important for the marine ecosystem, providing a home for invertebrates, fish, birds, algae, and other species.
The video also provides insight into an expedition by researchers from the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, which took place in the open Baltic Sea in the summer of 2025. During the expedition, the researchers carried out underwater video recording and photography, collected geological and biological samples, and documented the underwater landscape for further research and the development of a 3D model.
