On 11 – 12 October 2024 in Rouge (Estonia) the #AccessRoutes project organised a hackathon called – Vunki Mano, where teams from Latvia and Estonia brainstomed on ideas and solutions to facilitate accesibility and social inclusion – both, locally and cross-borders.
Vunki Mano social hackathon in Estonia takes place annualy for already 8 years. Everyone is welcome to take part and it is aimed at developing innovative services that promote life in Voru County. This year was the first time when also teams from Latvia took part and wider-scale ideas have been developed, going out the borders of Voru County.
In quate an intense atmosphere over 2 hackathon days 10 teams worked with their ideas and in the end presented them together with the solutions found to the hackathon jury and all the participants. 3 teams from Latvia participated:
- Representatives from Kurzeme museums, who developed the idea on creating a “Travelling Museum” accessible to all;
- Tourism and nature protection specialists from Vidzeme region together with Raimonds Smagars from NGO Apeirons worked on the idea related to different nature interpretation solutions, i.a. for people with disabilities, in the end coming up with an ambitious idea of creating a “Periscape” to facilitate access to watching towers;
- The Access Routes project represented the joint Estonia-Latvia cross-border team and worked with developing cross-border tourism routes accessible to all.
Team from Vidzeme and the joint Access Routes project team were acknowledged with promotional awards, whereas the “Travelling Museum” team from Kurzeme received one of the main hackathon prizes and 500 EUR to work on the prototype of their idea. The “Travelling Museum” idea shall be further developed and implemneted during the next year also thanks to the support of the project, by working on innovative toolkits planned in the project to help interpreting museum contents to various target groups.
